    Founded in 1976 by Dr. Angelo Gimondo, who at that time was the Superintendent of a Queens school district, the Italian Heritage and Culture Committee – NY, Inc. turns 40 this year. The non-profit group is behind some of the major events and celebrations held in the City during what is widely known as the “Italian Heritage and Culture Month” – October. We sat with its current President and Chariman, Mr. Joseph Sciame.

    And the Da Vinci Award Goes to Dr. Robert C. Gallo

    Tuesday, January 12, 2016, was the occasion for a unique and singular presentation ceremony, as Dr. Robert C. Gallo, Director of the Institute of Human Virology and Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, received the coveted Leonardo da Vinci Award for 2015 from the now 40-year-old Italian Heritage and Culture Committee-NY, Inc. (IHCC-NY, Inc.) The event took place at the Consulate General of Italy in New York City, in cooperation with the Office of the Consul General, under the auspices of Minister Natalia Quintavalle.

    OSIA: Honoring Joseph Sciame

    The Guglielmo Marconi Award, the Order Sons of Italy in America's (OSIA) highest honor, is named for the Nobel prize-winning Italian physicist who invented wireless telegraphy. It is presented biennially to an Italian American who has made significant contributions to the United States. This year's honoree is Joseph Sciame. He will be recognized at the Marconi Gala during the Sons of Italy's 54th Biennial National Convention in Bonita Springs, FL, on August 22, 2015.
