    The Art of Italian Cinema, from its Origins to the Present

    On October 18th Queens College and The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) inaugurated the first edition of the film festival IC-CUNY, part of a broader Made in Italy festival: Arts + Cultures also launched this year. The festival is an educational and research project housed at CUNY that aims at a deeper understanding of the art of Italian cinema, from its origins to the present. The festival sets out to involve students with local communities and bring awareness to the art of cinema and to the role of important archives and film restoration centers such as the Cineteca di Bologna, Italy.

    IAWA Welcomes Authors Marie-Helene Bertino and Joanna Clapps Herman on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at Cornelia St. Cafe

    On Saturday, Sept. 13, IAWA will welcome two very accomplished authors -- Marie Helene Bertino and Joanna Clapps Herman -- both of whom share a passion for teaching. Bertino is part of the new wave of writers teaching in workshop settings and within the framework of the innovative One Story concept while Herman has been teaching at universities; much of her work reflects her "italianita," which has been an inspiration for her. IAWA readings begin with an open mic followed by features taking the stage.

    Editor Nancy Ziehler presents at Calandra Institute a Research Anthology on "Italian-American Students in New York City, 1975-2000." The book is based on 10 research papers on Italian-American students in the New York City area, and focuses on how Italian-American students negotiated their ethnicity in a period where issues of gender and race were very urgent in the United States.

    Keeping Memory Alive
