Showcase Italian II

(February 29, 2008)
March 14, 2008: "Showcase Italian II" brings together leading educators at the college and high school level to present innovative teaching techniques in the fields of Italian language instruction, Italian, and Italian American Studies.

On March 14, 2008, the Higher Education Committee of The New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission (NJIIAHC) is hosting its second annual “Showcase Italian” symposium at Rutgers University/New Brunswick.

The theme of this year’s symposium is “Teaching the Unknown Classics in Italian and Italian American Studies.”

Over 20 presenters from high schools and colleges/universities around the country will be on hand to introduce participants to the latest pedagogical approaches to teaching Italian language, Italian and Italian American Studies.

The symposium is designed to bridge the gap between these three areas as well as between secondary and post-secondary instruction.  The all-day event will conclude with a roundtable panel of publishers that asks:  “Why Publish Italian American Books?”

Representatives from university, specialty, and popular presses will be on hand for what promises to be a provocative discussion.   Participants will have an opportunity to purchase books from these presses and others during the course of the day.

The mission of the NJIIAHC is:  To build and strengthen the cultural identity of Italians and Italian Americans through public educational programs that preserve and promote an accurate, bias free and non stereotyped understanding and awareness of historical and current contributions and accomplishments of people of Italian heritage.
