    Three Italian Films Nominated for the Cannes Film Festival

    Three Italian films were nominated for the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival, an annual international film festival held in Cannes, France. It will run from May 13th to May 24th this year. The directors are Giovanni "Nanni" Moretti, Paolo Sorrentino, and Matteo Garrone.

    Based on real events described in Gioacchino Criaco’s novel, BLACK SOULS (ANIME NERE) is a tale of violence begetting violence and complex morality inherited by each generation in rural, ancient Calabria, a real­ life mafia (‘Ndrangheta) seat in Southern Italy. The feature film directed by Francesco Munzi is opening in the New York, at the Angelika Fim Center on April 10.

The reading takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and kicks off with Open Mic readings of five minutes followed by the featured writers.

    In New York, on Columbus Day, a trailer of the film directed and played by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, “Marinetti a New York,” was shown. Clear in a video on YouTube, in collaboration with 77Agency, the film inspired by the performance of the same Finazzer Flory “gran Serata Futurista” is co-produced with the television production i-Italy.

    Migrants: Remembering Oct. 3 and The 360 Lampedusa Dead

    Trevignano is a small town north of Rome with a surprisingly big cinema tradition dating back to the Thirties. This Sept. 25-29 it hosted a five-day festival of documentary and fiction films from around the world dedicated to the problems of migrants. Organized by journalist Corrado Giustiniani with the participation of actors Carlo Verdone and Monica Guerritore, the Trevignano Film Festival was timed to honor the first anniversary of the drowning of some 360 migrants Oct. 3, 2013, off the coast of Lampedusa.
