  • In his first visit to the US as Italy’s President, Sergio Mattarella met with President Barack Obama, made an important appearance at the United Nations, visited the 9/11 memorial, the new Whitney Museum designed by Renzo Piano, the Columbia University, the City Hall of NYC and the Museum of Immigration in Ellis Island. And, above all, he embraced the Italian and Italian-American community at the Guggenheim Museum. “I am also a New Yorker” the Italian President told them in English, flanked by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo, Italian Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, and the Consul General in New York Natalia Quintavalle: “New York is the anthology of the world, and Italians have made and continue to make a significant contribution to the America’s progress”. Recap of his visit
  • It has now been ten years since Antonio Monda and Davide Azzolini held the first edition of their literary festival “Le Conversazioni”, on the beautiful island of Capri. Since then the event has grown and now takes place in four different cities spanning over 3 continents. The festival takes the form of casual yet sophisticated discussions between notorious intellectual figures. We met with the organizers during their annual New York preview at NYU’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Merimò and talked about the event’s inception and about what’s to be expected from the season’s NYC events at the Morgan Library, at the NY Historical Society, and at the Guggenheim.
  • On view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, until September 1st, 2014, this thorough exploration of the Futurist movement, a major modernist expression that in many ways remains little known among American audiences, promises to show audiences a little known branch of Italian art.
  • Art & Culture
    L. A.(February 17, 2014)
We interviewed the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, Riccardo Viale, who is at the end of his mandate. As he bids us farewell he leaves behind an App that allows users to access the calendar of events at the Institute but also to check out cultural initiatives that take place in Italy.
“Why?” he says “Because the Institute must become the go-to information channel for Americans interested in all that is Italian.”
  • A new book explores the life of Marta Abba (1900-1988) - acclaimed actress of the Italian and American stages and Luigi Pirandello's muse. A discussion and reading of the pair's letters took place at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò on November 19th.
