We interviewed Pietro Grasso - former judge and former President of the Senate, member and 'historical memory' of the commission regarding US-Italy relations in the field of the fight against organized crime. We discuss the mission in the US, the Palermo Convention, Falcone, Pizza Connection, but also young generations and the importance of participation, of the 'Sardine' phenomenon - "Legality, freedom, truth, sense of duty and of state are at the core of my actions, even in politics."

The twentieth anniversary on May 23 of the murder in Sicily of Judge Giovanni Falcone, heroic magistrate behind Palermo's famous "maxi-trial" of Mafia generals and simple soldiers, is being marked in both Italy and in the United States.

On May 23, University of Pennsylvania will host Alexander Stille's lecture "The Fate of an Excellent Cadaver: The Legacy of Judge Falcone; 20 Years After his Death." Organized by Italian Professionals in Philadelphia (PI-Philly), the lecture will feature an introduction by Italian Consul General to Philadelphia Luigi Scotto.

The crackdown on Mafia shows Italy at its best. Southern Italian cities, though plagued by many serious problems, no longer seem to be suitable places for a good mobster to hang out. That, at least, is progress.
