NICE Film Festival USA - Italian Movies Are Coming Online!

This fall, while traveling is not an option and movie theaters continue to be closed in many areas, American audiences can take a dip into Italy’s culture and atmosphere from the comfort of their couch. Italian movies are coming online. The 30th edition of New Italian Cinema Events USA (N.I.C.E.) will take place in New York, from November 14th to November 21st and in Philadelphia, from November 29th to December 6th. A curated selection of 11 recent movies not yet released in the U.S. will be available to the public on Eventive.org for this landmark cinema festival, offering a thorough exploration of the richness of contemporary Italian cinematography through renowned authors as well as new talents.

Films will be free and available at this link >>, 24 hours, every day, from November 14th to November 21st, in the New York metropolitan area and from November 29th to December 6th, in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The stream of festival programming runs all day from November 14th to November 21st, in the New York metropolitan area and from November 29th to December 6th, in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. As usual, the festival is partnering with cultural institutions in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to offer a series of live talks and panel discussions that will further expand the programming.

Screenings and talks are organized with the support of the Consulate General of Italy  in New York and in collaboration with N.I.C.E.’s long-time partners: Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò NYU, Italian Cultural Institute New York, Princeton University - Department of French and Italian, Penn Cinema Studies - University of Pennsylvania and Maysles Documentary Center in Harlem.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, in addition to the City of Florence Audience Award, this year N.I.C.E. USA will introduce a new award, the N.I.C.E. Prize, which will be assigned by a jury of professionals including Chiara Boschiero, senior programmer Biografilm, Bologna; Daniele Ceccarini, film director; Lorenzo Codelli, responsible for the Italian selection at Cannes Film Festival; Beatrice Fiorentino, Member of the selection committee of the International Critics' Week at Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica, Venice; Deborah Young  International Film Editor at The Hollywood Reporter.

Theme of this year’s program is cinema as a memory. Films can be time machines capable of bringing back to our consciousness, big and small stories, that fell into collective forgetfulness. Stories of diversity and heterogeneity can become universal when seen through a humanistic eye. In each of the films presented, the individual experience of others, such as facing the consequences of the economic crisis or being forced to leave the homeland, makes us think about our own choices and possibilities.

“With a revived festival, this year we want to send a positive message of hope, as we reaffirm that finding new ways of making and showing Italian cinema is still possible and today even more necessary” said Viviana Del Bianco, artistic director of N.I.C.E. “And it is in the name of these new possibilities that N.I.C.E. is coming to the States this November.”

N.I.C.E. - New Italian Cinema Events, is a cultural association founded in Florence to promote new independent Italian cinema abroad, through festivals and cultural exchanges in the United States, Europe and Russia. On the occasion of its 30th edition in the United States, determined to continue the journey started 3 decades ago, the organizers decided to take a new path in these difficult times, aiming at reaching a wider audience in the United States with an online festival and an open conversation.
