    On December 2nd the Consul General Francesco Maria Talò gave the lecture "From Pizza to PhD, from Dante to DNA: updating the image of Italy" before a large audience of students at Montclair University (NJ). He catalogued the main Italian accomplishments of both the past and the present in alphabetical order, and talked about them with the support of a slide show presentation.   • On the occasion of the Italian Culture and Heritage Month, the Province of Palermo represented by its President Giovanni Avanti paid its tribute to the Italian-American policeman Joe Petrosino by organizing the exhibit “Joe Petrosino, a 20th Century Hero. A documented account of his assassination in Palermo”, on view at the Calandra Italian American Institute. During the inauguration, Anna Maria Corradini presented her book “Documenta Joe Petrosino”, available for free for all of those who will visit the display. At the end of the event, the Consul General Francesco Maria Talò gave the title of “Knight of the Italian Republic” to Cosimo Sanicola, a native of the town of Marineo (Sicily) who moved to the United States at the age of 13
  • On October 22 the Italian Minister of Agriculture Luca Zaia held a meeting at Del Posto Restaurant in Manhattan to present Italian DOC, IGP, and DOP products.     The Italian Trade Commission and Hearst Magazines announced a new promotional campaign for Italian Fashion in the US. Six portfolios of photos featuring Italian Brands will be published by Hearst throughout the year while 150 specialized retail stores in America will be selling Italian fashion products with the support of the ITC. Hearst has also organized a photo contest for its readers with a 100.000$ award. Who is going to portray the “best Italian scene”?
  • On September 28 the Italian Minister of Economic Development Claudio Scajola held a press conference in New York to discuss the current situation of Italian exports in the US, and the measures the Italian government is enacting to promote “ Made in Italy” on a global level. Among the issues discussed, the measures being adopted to attract FDI in the country and to fight the phenomenon of falsifying national products abroad
  • This year’s edition of the National Italian American Women’s Organization Luncheon was held at the Waldorf Astoria on Sept. 26. Five scholarships were given to young college students from around the country. During the ceremony, Geraldine Ferraro was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Among those attending, also the former Governor of the State of New York Mario Cuomo and his son, the Attorney General Andrew Cuomo
